How to merge or split cells in a table

To merge cells – this is combining more than one cell in a table.

  • Select cells to be merged.
  • Click layout ribbon then from merge panel, click on merge cells.


    To split cells in a table – this is subdividing cells into more rows and columns.

    • Select cells to be split.
    • Click layout ribbon
    • Select split cells from merge panel (a dialogue box appears)
    • Specify number of columns and rows in the dialogue box then click Ok
